Ramadan is one of the most important times of the year for Muslims. It’s a month of fasting, reflection, patience, and gratitude, but just as importantly, it’s a time of togetherness. It’s when we slow down spiritually, reconnect with our faith, and make a conscious effort to be more present with family, friends, and our community.
From before dawn until sunset, Muslims fast from food and drink, breaking the fast each evening at iftar. While fasting is a deeply personal act of worship, Ramadan is also a collective experience. Homes feel different during this month; there’s a sense of calm, anticipation, and purpose that we all look forward to every year.
Ramadan at Tayyabah
At Tayyabah, Ramadan holds a very special place in our calendar. As a Muslim-owned, family-run business, it’s not just a busy season for us, it’s part of our way of life. We prepare for Ramadan with intention, care, and a deep understanding of what this month means to our customers, because it means the same to us.
Culturally, South Asian households spend a lot of time preparing food during Ramadan. Food plays a huge role, not just in nourishment after a long day of fasting, but in bringing people together. Iftar is often the one time of day when families make a real effort to sit together at the table, even if life is usually too busy to do so. It’s about sharing a meal, appreciating one another, and breaking the fast together in a moment that feels both grounding and spiritual.
Why Puff Pastry Is a Big Part of Ramadan
For us, Ramadan preparation involves a significant increase in puff pastry production. Savoury pasties are a staple at South Asian iftars, whether it’s Chicken Tikka Pasties, Creamy Mushroom Pies, or other filled pastries served alongside dates and drinks. Puff pastry is the base for so many of these dishes, and it’s something families rely on heavily during this time.

Our puff pastry range is available in five different formats to suit different needs:
All of our puff pastry is HMC certified and completely alcohol-free – including no alcohol used at any stage of the process, even where it may traditionally be said to “evaporate during cooking.” This is something we take extremely seriously.
With up to 100 layers rolled into each batch, our puff pastry is something we’re proud to be known for. As Ramadan approaches, we begin ramping up production months in advance, ensuring our stores are well stocked as families start their preparations, often as early as two to three months before the month begins.
Making Ramadan Easier Without Losing Authenticity
We also recognise that not everyone has the time or energy to spend hours in the kitchen, especially while fasting. That’s why, alongside puff pastry, we significantly increase the production of our halal frozen food during this period.
Items like our mini pasty bites and mini sausage rolls are designed to make life easier, without compromising on taste or authenticity. They allow families to enjoy familiar, traditional flavours without needing to prepare everything from scratch, particularly helpful when there’s already so much to make for iftar.

Ramadan should be about balance: nourishing the body, strengthening the soul, and spending meaningful time with loved ones. If we can help make the food side of things a little easier, while keeping it authentic and halal, then that’s exactly what we aim to do.
As Ramadan 2026 approaches, we’re working hard behind the scenes to ensure our customers have everything they need, whether they love preparing meals from scratch or prefer ready-made options that still feel homemade.
